Saweetie is a 21 year old artist from the Bay Area. Her breakout hit "Icy Girl" has garnered 7.3 million views on YouTube and 2.91 million listens on Soundcloud. When listening Saweetie you feel like you're stepping into an episode of The Faboulous of. She took Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious" vibe and ran with it. While talking to Genius, Saweetie said that she wrote "Icy Girl" to motivate her listeners. She says:
"I hope that when they listen to "Icy Girl," they can use the tools and hidden gems that I have in the song. Like, use it to help wherever they are at in life. Even if you are in a good place in life, just keep on progressing, moving forward. It's all about growth. You never want to be stagnant and just get to that back."
With songs like "Icy Girl," "Expensive," and "High Maintenance" Saweetie is telling her listeners to never settle and have high standards. She graduated from the University of Southern California in 2016 and decided to put most of her attention to her rap career. I am very excited to see what Saweetie in 2018.
